Nature & Sensory Experiences at Acton LDC
The children have been deeply engaged in play and learning inspired by their curiosity about nature and sensory experiences. Educators have observed children showing sustained interest in exploring natural materials, both indoors and outdoors. These materials have sparked opportunities for discovery, creativity, and meaningful learning.
Children have been exploring with their senses to investigate the world around them. Listening to the crunch of leaves as they roll and mix into playdough and mixing water through sand to create different textures – they have been building strong sensory connections with nature. These experiences support children’s developing awareness of the natural environment while encouraging their curiosity and wonder.
Educators have been closely observing and listening to the children’s ideas, using these interests to guide the learning program. By following children’s curiosity about nature and their interest in sensory play, educators have created inviting experiences including nature tables, sensory trays with natural materials, and outdoor exploration areas. These environments encourage children to explore at their own pace and extend their thinking through open-ended play.
Through this responsive approach, educators are supporting children’s learning in ways that feel meaningful and engaging. By valuing children’s voices and interests, the program continues to grow in ways that nurture curiosity, creativity, and a deeper connection with the natural world.

Exploring Creativity at Punchbowl OSHC
The children at Punchbowl After School Care have been enjoying a variety of creative craft experiences, with different options available each week.
As part of our Belonging and Reconnection focus at the beginning of the term, children created a Random Acts of Kindness Tree. Each child was invited to add leaves sharing thoughtful actions they noticed from their friends and educators. These messages celebrated the big and small ways we support one another each day, from helping a friend pack up to including others in games.
This activity encouraged children to reflect on kindness and helped strengthen the sense of community within our space.
Children have also been exploring hands on crafting by learning how to weave and braid colourful paracord bracelets. Using a braiding tool, they carefully threaded and tied their cords, practicing patience, problem solving, and fine motor skills. The process required focus and perseverance, and children were incredibly proud to wear their finished bracelets or gift them to friends.
We also explored a Dr Seuss themed week, where children brought their favourite books and rhymes to life through imaginative arts and crafts. From colourful creations to playful designs inspired by well-loved stories, the children had so much fun expressing their creativity while celebrating the joy of reading through craft.
Punchbowl After School Care is continuing to provide a variety of craft choices each week, inspired by children’s voice and interests. It has been wonderful to see the pride children take in their creations and the conversations that naturally develop while crafting together.
