Winter Wellbeing
It is the time of year we spend more of our time indoors and whilst snuggled on the couch reading, watching telly, playing board games, building Lego or doing whatever it is you enjoy doing together as a family can be so lovely and cozy, there is no doubt that in Tasmania with our cold weather heating our homes is a necessity.
Winter for many means needing to purchase warm clothes for our growing children as well as considering how we can heat our homes to keep us warm and snug. For many, it can be a very expensive time of the year especially when combined with the many other costs that exist when raising a family.
We all know how tough it is for so many and with charitable organisations reporting an increase in people accessing their services that have never done so previously, we know the cost of living is such that many of us are finding it harder to juggle our expenses and it can at times be a struggle to provide the ‘basics’.
For those of us who may find it particularly tough this winter and may need to look for additional support outside their normal networks and not be sure where to start a great place to start could be the Find Help Tas website.
This website is a community initiative led by a partnership of Tasmanian Community Service Organisations, supported by TasCOSS. The website aims to connect you with local community services on a wide range of matters that can at times impact us all.
For example, access to food support, housing support, health supports and emergency support. It is there for all members of the community including families, young people and older adults and can be a helpful starting point. www.findhelptas.org.au
