Harmony Week 2026
Harmony Week is the celebration that recognises our diversity and brings everyone together from different cultures and backgrounds. It’s about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone.
Lady Gowrie Tasmania honours and celebrates the cultural diversity of our community not only during Harmony Week, but through our everyday practice and the provision of safe and inclusive programs for our children, families, staff and learners.
Special experiences took place across our services and programs to celebrate diversity. From ‘Taste of Harmony’ events, to children creating ‘belonging chains’, to sharing family stories, music and traditions – we certainly embraced the theme of ‘Everyone Belongs’!
‘Everyone Belongs’ at Brighton & Albuera Street OSHC
At our Albuera Street OSHC program the children and educators engaged in meaningful conversations about belonging. The children documented what makes them feel like they belong at OSHC and then they made a paper ‘belonging chain’ together.
At our Brighton OSHC program the children created drawings of themselves. They coloured and decorated the figures to represent their own features, clothing and personalities, before placing them together in a circle. This experience celebrated their uniqueness, similarities and differences while displaying how everyone belongs and contributes to our OSHC community.
National Quality Framework Learning Outcomes:
Outcome 1.1 – Children feel safe, secure and supported: Creating a picture of themselves encouraged children to feel proud of who they are and share their identity with others.
Outcome 2.1 – Children develop a sense of belonging to groups and communities: Displaying all the children together in a circle highlighted that everyone belongs and is an important part of the group.
Outcome 2.2 – Children respond to diversity with respect: The activity encouraged children to recognise and celebrate differences between themselves and their peers.
Outcome 5.3 – Children express ideas and make meaning using a range of media: Children used drawing and colouring materials to creatively represent themselves and communicate their identity.
