Nature Play Week 2026

 

Celebrating Nature Play Week at our University North Education and Care Service!

“Supported by educators, the children engaged in hands-on, collaborative nature play and learning experiences throughout this special week at our service.

 

Some children worked together to build a pathway in our sensory garden developing their social skills, problem-solving, and an understanding of construction concepts. This experience also fostered an appreciation for nature and outdoor learning, with the children engaging directly with natural materials to enhance their garden environment.

 

Others explored insects using natural materials and magnifying glasses, encouraging observation, curiosity, and early scientific thinking. Conversations extended into reading a story about insects, sparking the children’s imagination and sense of wonder about the natural world around them.

 

Spontaneous discoveries in our outdoor environment also sparked the children’s curiosity, including observing local birdlife, leading to meaningful conversations about the foods birds consume and the impact of weather on their food sources.”

 

Celebrating Nature Play Week at our Pedder Education and Care Service!

“Educators facilitate nature play every day at our service by providing opportunities for children to explore, investigate and immerse themselves in nature and natural materials, in both outdoor and indoor environments.

 

With the change in season, we have noticed changes in our outdoor environment, especially the Autumn leaves falling to the ground. Children in the Ockerby Room have been exploring leaves and using their senses to express wonder and curiosity in their world.

 

Elements of nature are also incorporated into our indoor environments, with children in the Hampden Room using their imaginations and natural materials for painting and playdough, exploring textures and different possibilities together.

 

During school terms two Pedder educators facilitate Bush Playgroup for Playgroup TAS at our local Trevallyn Reserve. Every Thursday, families and children come together to connect with the wonder, peace and beauty of nature on Country.

 

They explore natural elements through play experiences including nature walks, mud play with diggers, looking for mini beasts with magnifying glasses, and exploring the many learning opportunities nature has to offer.”
